Cheese Garlic Bread on a Tawa or in the Oven

8 October 2026

Good garlic bread needs garlic butter that spreads evenly. A shortcut is to mix Grella Garlic into soft butter: you get garlic and cheese flavour in one step, with no chopping. It works on a tawa, in a pan or in the oven.

What you need (makes 6 to 8 slices)

  • 1 small loaf, a baguette, or 6 to 8 slices of bread or pav
  • 3 tablespoons soft butter
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons garlic cheese seasoning
  • Grated cheese and chopped coriander (optional)

Method

  1. Mix the soft butter and the seasoning in a small bowl until smooth.
  2. Spread it on one side of each slice.
  3. Add grated cheese on top if you like.
  4. Tawa or pan: place butter side up, cover with a lid and cook on low heat for 4 to 5 minutes until the base is crisp and the cheese melts.
  5. Oven: bake at 200 °C for 8 to 10 minutes until golden.
  6. Finish with a light shake of seasoning and some coriander.

Tips

  • Use soft butter, not melted butter, so the bread does not go soggy.
  • Pav makes a great quick garlic bread for kids.
  • Leftover garlic butter keeps in the fridge for a few days. Use it on pasta or corn.
